Strategy becomes real in the organization.

A company can have a smart strategy, talented people, and serious ambition, and still make progress harder than it needs to be. Usually, the friction is in between: between the strategy and the decisions people make from it, between strong individual leaders and the leadership team they need to become, between one function and the next, and between the organization that worked before and the one the business now requires.

Straiven works in those spaces. We help leadership teams connect strategy, leadership, teams, structure, and ways of working so they reinforce one another rather than compete.

Why Straiven

We are not a leadership-development company that occasionally talks about strategy. We do not treat strategy as a document to hand over. And we do not assume every organizational problem requires a restructure. We work across the system because leaders have to. Strategy shapes leadership. Leadership shapes culture and execution. Structure shapes decisions and behavior. Technology changes work. The organization performs as a whole, and we think about it that way.

How we work

Start with where the business is going. There is no universally correct organization design, leadership model, or way of working. The right answer depends on what the company is trying to accomplish.

Diagnose before prescribing. The visible problem is not always the underlying one. We listen, ask questions, and understand how the work happens before deciding what to do.

Work on the live issue. We would rather use an actual decision, conflict, or cross-functional challenge than teach a hypothetical version of it.

Keep it straightforward. Clear language, useful tools, and direct conversations, with no unnecessary complexity.

Who we are

An advisory firm built around practical work.

Straiven is an advisory firm based in Austin, Texas, founded by Janelle Millard. Alongside a small team of experienced advisors, she works with leadership teams across organizational development, leadership, strategy, technology, and AI, among other areas.

Our philosophy is simple: the work should be practical, and it should sit where strategy meets the way the organization actually runs. We start with two questions. Where will this create value, and what has to change for that value to show up?

Depending on what the business needs, that can mean helping a leadership team get clear on direction, developing the leaders and teams who will carry it, or redesigning how the organization operates.
